Developing 278 pound-feet of peak torque, the V-6 engine has an SAE J2807-certified towing limit of 5,000 pounds. This normally aspirated powerhouse is coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission system. A 2.5-L engine with the Atkinson cycle design is integrated into the 2022 Toyota Highlander's hybrid powertrain. Featuring the L4HV Double Overhead Cam design, the hybrid powertrain has a combined output of 243 hp. An electronically controlled continuously variable transmission is mated to the hybrid system. The Electronic On-Demand AWD system is exclusively synced with the eCVT. This model is also available with a 3.5-L engine that delivers up to 295 hp and 263 lb-ft. An eight-speed automatic gearbox is paired with this V-6 engine. All output is directed to the Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD system for enhanced traction on slippery surfaces. Both Toyota SUVs offer the Multi-Terrain Select technology for phenomenal off-road handling. For example, you could choose the Rock & Dirt Mode to conquer some of the most treacherous trails in North America. With additional leverage from the Crawl Control and Downhill Assist Control, the 2022 4Runner navigates steep landscapes with incredible composure. Additionally, this legendary Toyota SUV offers a locking rear differential and Torsen limited-slip differential with a lock. With support from the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, this durable model smoothly climbs uneven terrains. When fitted with the X-REAS Suspension, the vehicle maintains a good balance on corners or curves.
